Proudly part of NZ’s commercial landscape since 1966.
What is was, what it is:
Villager’s legacy includes Auckland’s branding as the ‘City of Sails’, organising New Zealand’s only international motor show, and advertising for some of Aotearoa’s favourite brands and businesses as a former advertising agency.
Historically we helped a number of clients develop and manage their property visions as well, from vineyards to major hotels and resorts in the Asia Pacific region. This included concept designs, feasibilities, marketing and advertising campaigns, and fit-out management to the finest detail for client buildings and properties.
We are proud to focus our attention on delivering strong results for New Zealand’s commercial property sector and manage astute portfolios that require detail and dedication across commercial property and facilities management for our clients.
“It is more likely a stroke of frustration rather than brilliance that heralds the birth of a Campbell brain child.”

Throughout decades:
1966-1979
Graphic studio Campbell Creative and Colorgraphic (started in 1957) becomes Campbell Advertising in 1966, operating from its CBD office at 55 Upper Queen Street. Campbell Advertising Limited commences its Asia and USA expansion strategy from 1970. The company outgrows its facilities by the mid 70s and a new office building is constructed at 55 Pollen Street in nearby Ponsonby. Legacy clients include Villa Maria Wine and Radio Hauraki.
1980-1989
Campbell Advertising expands to cover more than 15 international locations. Annual revenue averages circa NZD40 million by the end of the decade. Client portfolio includes the Sheraton Corporation, Thai Airways, Newmans Group, as well as the New Zealand Tourism Board. Campbell Advertising becomes instrumental in branding Auckland as New Zealand’s ‘City of Sails’.
1990-1999
Campbell Advertising divests its strategic marketing and tourism division in a partnership split and exits the ad industry, retaining a handful of staff and entering the advanced technology sector through founder Gene Campbell’s proprietary media and technology initiatives. New subsidiaries are formed under Campbell Advertising as a parent entity.
2000-2009
Founder Gene Campbell passes unexpectedly in 2002 with no formalised succession plan. Campbell Advertising is merged with subsidiary Ponsonby’s Shopping Village in 2005 in an internal restructure.
2010-2025
Restructuring of management and assets, upgrading of facilities, and an internal audit and reorganisation of archives and historic data. Renaming to Campbell Aotearoa in 2021. From 2023 onwards, prioritisation of efficiency and reduction in capital drag, realignment towards new business opportunities and partnerships.
